Only the age of the father at the time of the birth of his child, that must be your ancestor, counts. Whether the father may have fathered a non-ancestor of yours even later is not to be taken into account.

The oldest ancestor I know of that became a father had a second son when he was 50 years old. He had his first when he was 20, then another with his second wife since he married again after his first wife died (I could remember it wrong, they may have divorced, but I'm pretty sure he was widowed). So the two half-brothers had an age difference of 30 years. Both of them are my ancestors, since the son of the younger one married the eldest son's granddaughter or something like that.

My record holder died in November 1653 at the age of 72. In January 1654 the child was born to the widow. She was 42 or 43 years old at that time.

The death entry referred to says that he and his son of the same name, 2 years, 13 weeks and 3 days old, died at the same day. Sounds like a tragic accident (no plague apparent in the church records).

The second oldest father in line with the mentioned rules was 68 years old.

My father’s father (paternal grandfather) had my dad at age 48...and was himself born in 1908.

I have an ancestor born on January 8, 1657.
    He married 3 times: in 1678, 1681 and 1711.
His 3rd wife was born in 1690.
My ancestor, the last of their children, was born on March 9, 1729.
The father was 72 years and 2 months old

My great-great-grandfather was born in 1863, and he had a son at 58. I have older cases in my tree but these are not direct ancestors.

My maternal grandfather was 59 when my mother was born and 69 when my aunt was born. He died 9 years later.
Nine out of ten concerns are completely unfounded.

Stunning close to mine both in age and time period.

Okay, if you well do ancestry research that is the time period where you may have the biggest number of known ancestors with sufficient data.

    Yes!
I have the most ancestors born around 1600/1610, but baptismal records are becoming increasingly rare at that time.
I have not yet looked in the registers before 1600.
I prefer to take my time to properly support the filiations.
Homonyms are very common at this time...
