I subscribe to the idea that civilization is structured in ways that are not apparent. But I find it less compelling the idea that societies are governed mysteriously.

There is so much random stuff that if one is looking for a specific connection, one will find it.
If one sets out to find a connection that says the exact opposite, one can find that too.

Along the same lines is all that "golden ratio" stuff found in nature.
