My grandma used term vratar in negative sense ('vratre te ne odnesi'). Earlier i though it is modified form of vrag (devil). But might be fratar (Catholic priest), she did not use voice F as all Serbian villagers. In the words with F in Serbian standard she used mostly V (vrižider, Vrancuska etc) and less P (Pilip for example). Vratar is maybe mix of vrag and fratar.
How will the enemy be in Serbian? The Eastern Slavs began to insert a vowel letter between consonant letters. This is a secondary Proto-Slavic return. Vrag is a modern Russian from Church Slavonic. Vorog-this is what all the Eastern Slavs have been saying since the 8th-9th century.

Enemy in Serbian is neprijatelj. Friend is prijatelj, and ne in the front is negation. That's how this word came about.
Friend is also drug. But between prijatelj and drug their is some difference. Prijatelj is close friend, and drug is not so close friend it's something between friend and acquaintance.

    За нас је реч "непријател"
скоро синоним за реч "враг". "Враг" је оштрији и једнозначнији, са смислом да уништи овог гада. Непријатељ једноставно нису баш пријатељски народи типа Хрвата, али ми немамо отворено непријатељство. НАТО је непријатељ, али Украјина "враг" разумем, иако је све замагљено. Украјина је такође непријатељ, а НАТО је такође "враг".

I'd say a reasonable response for me is around 70%, although I'm a native French speaker, fluent in Italian, and I have a fair understanding of Spanish (as far as Romance languages go).

Naturally, as usual, written forms are easier to understand than spoken ones, and meaning of specific text/word can be determined from context. Furthermore, just because something derives from the Latin language doesn't automatically imply that it is perfectly understandable because, as with all linguistic groups, there are many false friends, Romance group is no exception.

I would comprehend far less than 70% if I didn't speak Italian fluently.

I agree that it is not, but knowing both together with a decent knowledge of Spanish improves understanding of the language or, at the very least, the context. I also speak German and know some of the most fundamental Croatian idioms, which all help to a broad comprehension of the vocabulary.

A language ancestry tree is not always helpful in determining comprehensibility.

For instance, it is pretty obvious that Romanian and Aromanian shared a common ancestor 1000 years ago. To this day many words and even expressions have identical pronunciation in both languages (even though spelling is different). Nonetheless, because Aromanian has a such a deep Greek influence, properly understanding Aromanian is hard for Romanians, significantly harder than understanding Italian. About a month of exposure to Italian is necessary for Romanians to comprehend it with ease. Much more effort is required to understand Aromanian.

That chart is wrong because it group aromanian with megalo Romanian but it's closer to Romanian then aromanian

Maybe around 20-30% depending on the topic. I had Latin at school, but I don't speak any Romance language, I only know the basics
