This is the crux of the matter. I learnt catalan without putting any effort or study, only being exposed to it is more than enough.

People say a lot of things. Ukraine was already a mess before the war. They have a taste of a far better life in the West.

I don't think there are any positions that make it mandatory to know Irish but it is definitely more beneficial to know it. You need English for all jobs but Irish isn't compulsory. Some positions will state if Irish is required. The vast majority of positions though would just require English. So people immigrating to Ireland would need to know English but not Irish. Irish is compulsory in schools but children arriving after 11 are not required to learn it. As far as I'm aware though if you want to be a teacher you will need to know Irish. Many EU citizens live in Ireland so a lot of bars to jobs requiring Irish were scrapped in the 1990s. It used to be compulsory for people that wanted to become police (Garda) to know Irish but this is no longer required.

There is lots of official use of Irish in Government and the Gaelic Athletic Associate encourage Irish.

Thats so emotional, I think I could forget that Ukranian refugee crisis is exacerabating housing shortage and education crisis here. Where is BBC who could make an article how I became emotional because of 2 Ukranians who learned Welsh?

I have nothing against Ukranian refugees, I pitty them, because they escaped war but yes it is propaganda.
