Is difficult to know for sure, after the Islamic invasion of the rest of Iberia is true that Cantabria becomes in a refuge for SpanishGoths but I doubt that the Goths, coming originally from the South of Sweden and being a minority were the reason of this genes, the archaeology also speak of a relationship with the ancient peoples of the Danube and low Rhine, I think this is the most likely origin.
Anyway the R1b haplogroup is the majority in Cantabria.
