Lots of Taiwanese citizens consider themselves to be Chinese and it's over ideology to them. So, you want to force half of the nation into new identity. Already seen in lots of countries and it didn't go well.

Yes, but I have seen statistics and found out that their rate decrease and younger people mostly consider themselves as Taiwanese. They have a particular identity. Their ancestry is Chinese but they will be like Austrians.

Militarily speaking, China can adopt a cold doctrine of "war of attrition" with Taiwan to drain the NATO war chest (US, UK) because that means they now have to finance and supply Ukraine against Russia and Taiwan against China both, while deal with Iranian cannon fodder proxies in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea that are now practically threatening the oil flow and hence the petrodollar. NATO, budget and military wise is just US, UK, and France, the rest of the countries have weak non strategic militaries so an elongated war will result in financial degradation. That approach is far more dangerous and effective than what Russia was initially doing in Ukraine.

The main question is, how much interest China will have in Taiwan, post rise of alternate microchip industries out of Taiwan? Chinese are not the emotional type that will invade the island just to prove a point.
