If you mean antiquity than it's the Celts, because they were initially very widespread across Europe and were more advanced and better known than Slavs at that time. During this whole period the remnant of Celts in the fringes of the British Isles and Brittany declined in power and prestige and even their languages have lost most of their native speakers close to our own times.
