Default Why is Dutch from the Netherlands but Deutsch from Germany?

Why are the words Dutch and Deutsch so similar, but one refers to people from the Netherlands and the other to people from Germany?

Old IE word meaning "tribe" as in Teuton or Old Irish Tuath Dé "Tribe of the Gods", Oscan Touto "community,"et al., from the root *teuta-.

Funny thing is that even the Dutch National hymn includes “Ben ik van Duitsern bloed” which in modern Dutch would mean “I am of German bloed” but the hymn is extremely old so “Duits” in this sense means Dutch not German because at that time it was used for both languages.

Klopt!

Was könnte man sprachlich machen?

Oder wi mok in Taukunft as Kompromiss Plattdütsch een gemeensam Spraak för all Lüüdt.
