Northern Germany isn't North Germanic, Goths weren't German and Scania isn't in Germany, even if you Germans like to think so.

Sorry for meddling into some personal Germanic deals but I heard from Pallantide the thesis - "Scandanavians are not Germans" From the moment I've never named Scans Germans (Scandinavians know better!). I had really used the term Germans/North Germans for Scandinavians meaning similar languages and genes

Pride is a two way cutting sword. Sometimes I get the impresson Germans fell victims to their own great history. They have been brought up with it being an integral part of their identity and became ensnared by its greatness and the expectations of their own ego.

By this example I only pointed to the fact that the Goths, Vandals and Heruli all descended from Scandinavia, which is well accouted in the sources, and and all formed separate tribal entities. Not so closely related to Rhine Germanics as to easch other. Goths stayed in Scania, Pomerania, then along the Black Sea, then in Dacia, along the Danube and in Crimea, then Italy and Spain... and so on. Nowhere, however, apart from Scandinavia, did they constitute the indigenous element. And it is difficult to claim a whole domain or even a country on the grounds that some tribe at some stage passed through or inhabited the land. In fact not even the land, but a few enclaved disperesed wihtin a vast primeval forest. This is simply bringing modern notions of national countries and policital boundaries into the times and conditions when such were non-existent. Tribes were no nations. Besides, the ethnic composition of ancient Europe, particularly areas which were not immediately bordering on the Roman empire can only be inferred from partial information and archeology. And anyway, the modern scholarly conlusion over the original inhabitants of Przeworsk and Oksywsie cultures is that they were most likely the Venedi or Veneti. In fact this dual character and diversity of culture seems to be reflected in different burial rites and findings of the Wielbark culture.



And anyway - they all LEFT! If you intentionally leave your land to take the posession of another, better one and you move en masse to your new domain - than you have made a decision and need to face its consequences. Otherwise half of Europe could be claimed as "Germanic" "Roman" "Slavic" - just choose the proper time and tribe.

Poles are not Goths. Goths came to Pomerania c. I AD and stayed for some 100 years or so.


At the same time many Pomeranians or Prussians are just germanised Slavs and Balts.

It is a stupid misunderstanding. Her being SOUTH German was not to imply that North Germans are Norse or whatever, but simply to stress how geographically FAR the Baltic world is from her own.

That's how I understood it, so no need to make some drama about it.
