What percentage of the population in France is ethnic French?

As the French constitution doesn't allow censuses to report on ethnic or racial data, we only have estimates from various institutes.

The latest I've seen is from Institut Montaigne in 2004, which showed 85% of the population being white, while in 2008 the Institut national d' etudes démographiques and the National Institute of Statistics which indicated the biggest foreign ethnic groups by origin.

What's the reality here?

About 9-10M MENA, mostly NAs (8.6M of Muslims officially or 12.7%) + 3M Blacks + 3-4 Millions of Iberians & Italians (id say cose to equal amount each) + 1-2M everything else.

The stat is 40% under the age of 4y have at least one foreign born parent but this is expected with around 20M people of immigrant background out of 68M and a much higher fertility rate.

Well the 2021 Census said that 24% of the population of England and Wales belonged to an ethnic group other than White British.

32% between 18 and 60 in France, which gives 21M overall, with the younger being more foreign and the over 60 more natives, that clicks with the 20M or so estimate.


On a similar metric of under 4y old, UK is probably around 30%.

Actually, as I also reported before, the annual School Census of England said that 27% of children up to 18 were non-White and another 7% were White Other. (The percentages in Wales, Scotland and NI remain much lower).
