    Default Christmas Dinner/Lunch

For those that celebrate, what will you be doing/eating?

We're having a braai for a change. We usually have an enormous Italian meal, but it's far too hot at this time of the year.

A few weeks ago, I made a roast lamb in the electric frying pan. I marinated it for about 18 hours in cranberry sauce, fresh rosemary, garlic, lemon zest and black pepper, and everyone went wild over it.

So, I am going to do a lamb on the spit with that marinade, and we'll braai boerewors and rump steak as well. Everyone contributes financially toward the cost of the meat, and each family will bring a salad or a dessert.

The best is that I won't be stuck in a hot kitchen, cooking for hours.

A traditional and wide-spread meal in Southern Germany and Austria for Christmas evening are Bratwürste with Blaukraut, sweet moustard and bread. It's a simple meal but there's no huge lunch on Christmas. The huge meals are following on the 1st and 2nd Christmas days: Roast venison or duck.

We don't eat fish or turkey on the Christmas days, that's more a Northern German habit.
