Heatmap for my paternal Great Grandmother's surname. I've wondered if it is Irish, English or Scots.

The surname distribution is not that helpful because most are in the US.

Anyway a very interesting site for people.

One of my Great Great Grandmothers surname which is very localised now in Tipperary. It could be from Norman French but I've also heard it could have Huguenot origin. Anyway going back to 1500 to 1800 it could possibly have a French origin and some went to Tipperary, Ireland. So that is super interesting.

I did my four grandparents' last names. I got Warwickshire, Cork, Edinburgh, and Missouri (half the thread is "from there").

This is pretty accurate to me. Husband's surname and it does explain introduced to Ireland by the Normans in the 12th century. Now widespread this was the name of families in Connacht and Wexford

This is for 1500. I'm not sure what's happening there with New Zealand? Anyway his family's origins are Wexford.

As an Irish name this is found mainly in Roscommon and Fermanagh and is connected with the O'Connors or the Maguires; in Scotland it is connected with the Colquhouns.
