Default What races and ethnicities are often stereotyped as being lighter or darker than the reality?

    IMHO:

Stereotyped as lighter than is really the case

Northern Europeans. (Even in the Scandinavian countries - let alone the British Isles, Benelux, Germany, Poland etc - dark brown and black hair are actually not that rare, and truly blonde hair as opposed to light brown hair is no more than maybe 40% of natives).

    Stereotyped about right

Sub-Saharan Africans, Pacific Islanders, Aboriginal Australians.

Stereotyped as darker than is really the case

Most other groups: Southern Europeans (including I confess by myself at times); Latin Americans (much more varied than is often thought); MENAs (far more light-skinned individuals than is often thought); South Asians (often it is claimed they are as dark as SSAs - maybe 10% are); East Asians (see what I said about MENAs).

Most South Asians are not as dark as SSAs - even among Southern Indians, Sri Lankans and Maldivians, I would not say an outright majority are that dark; Lucy Liu types among East Asians are not actually that unusual; as for MENAs, while we can agree that most Yemenis and Omanis are very dark-pigmented, this is far less true for Turks, Iranians, Levantines and even many Iraqis and North Africans.

    for me:

*most South Asians are Dark Brown skinned and not attractive (literally 80%-%90 are)

*Most North Africans look like Mulatto or Quadroon. I agree with what you said about other MENA's.

*Not all East Asians look the same. especially filipinos look very austronesian

I would say Irish, Scottish, Austrians, Germans, Belgians, Poles, perhaps the Baltic people are stereotyped as being lighter, Algerians, Iranians, perhaps Levantine groups some Balkan nationalities i.e Bosnians, Montenegrians are steryotyped as generally dark despite lighter features being regular.

Even so, they are usually at least a couple of tones lighter than e.g. most Senegalese and Ghanaians - even South Indians/Sri Lankans/Maldivians.

A lot do of course, but you also get some quite pale types like Rachida Dati and Zinedine Zidane.

Even among Filipinos, while most certainly don't look like the cherrypicked 'telenovela' types, all the same nor are most anywhere close to Fijians and Samoans either.

Yes. Also, among Baltic people, in my experience while Estonians are almost if not actually Scandinavian-level in blondeness, Latvians and Lithuanians are noticeably more brunette by comparison.

Yes. Also, Bosnians are considerably lighter than Montenegrins, as well as Albanians and even to an extent Serbs.

Interesting, i thought Montenegrians were supposed to have quite high rufosity according to Coon, are you sure they are that dark?

I thought a reasonable number of people can look like that in the coastal regions at least.

    I dont agree.
As someone who watches a lot of rugby, and also has seen lots of Filipinos work as nurses in particular, I can assure you that Fijians and Samoans are several shades darker than any East Asian (including Filipinos).
