Wasn't expecting him to be R1b, it's very rare in South Asia indeed. Turns out he's even whiter than we thought

Yes, and his dad is brown looking dude from rural northeast Bangladesh. Poor family. I didn't expect this at all, R1b is maybe 1% in Bangaldesh! I didn't even expect R1a that's more common. I expected some Dravidian haplogroup like H or L or maybe something mongoloid since low class Bangladeshis mixed quite a bit with Sino-Tibetian peoples.

Well, Bangladesh is majority Muslim, I doubt they have the Indian caste thing going on. Never been deeply interested in those countries.

The main haplos in Bangladeshi Bengalis are the following (a very solid sample size of 649):
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y-DNA_...20subcontinent.
    Code:
    R1a 31.59%
    H 17.72%
    L 17.41%
    J 15.72%
    Q 6.93%
    I 4.16%
    E 2.62%
    G 1.08%
    R1b 0.62%
    N 0.46%
4% I is super weird for Bangladesh too by the way. But R1b is apparently even rarer.

Interesting. From what I know, in south Asia mostly low caste peoples converted to Islam (and Christianity is some parts of India) exactly to escape their lowly socal status. In Bangladesh hindu minority is lilely more caucasoid genetically and lighter than muslims from what I have seen.

I saw some Hindu Bangladeshi/Bengali results and they had notably lower mongoloid than muslims. Also higher steppe and west Asian input.

    Exclamation Who gets haplogroups?

    • Family Finder customers with new results that post after the feature is live will receive their haplogroup with the rest of their results.
    • Family Finder customers who received results between March 2019 and the day before the feature is live will be the first to receive their results.
    • Family Finder customers who received results prior to March 2019 will receive their results next.
    • Autosomal transfer customers who have unlocked their full results will be the third group to receive their results.

Important note: Because Ancestry and 23andMe transfers are not lab-to-lab transfers, haplogroups from these tests will only be displayed to the tester, will not be shared with matches or Group Projects, and will not be included in the Haplotree or Discover™ statistics.

All customers can expect to receive an email once their haplogroup has been added to their results.
Adding this information for those unsure. (Initially, I had the same question.)
    23andMe 73.9% Eastern European 12.1% French & German 5.2% Greek & Balkan 0.2% Ashkenazi Jewish
