Are You Guessed Wrong?

But one of my sisters, on a plane stopover in Dubai, was given an immigration document thinking she was a Filipino or Asian worker, while another of my sisters sitting next was considered directly a random European tourist..

In Guatemala they thought she was from there, coincidentally I recently saw photos of that trip, and she has lighter skin than the indigenous people there and she is taller, but it is not strange that sometimes there are who think that she is part Asian or indigenous American.

As a baby she looked like a very plump Chinese baby.

Its been a long time that i was "guessed as something" usually people ask where im from but they do not guess, they ask me.
In the past 35 years since im in austria i was a couple of times told a guess, one of them was egyptian another persian, turkish/kurdish was also a few times, also a few times i was told that i pass as austrian or that it is not noticeable im a foreigner (which i think i dont but i was told that a few times) maybe they also refferr to my manners and speech though when they say that not only my look, im quite sure i dont look fully european.

When I give no indication of my ancestry people often claim I look mixed race SSA. This is largely because of my rather flat nose which one member once wrote in a classification thread from a different account than it resembles Latin American noses. Another (PaleoEuropean) said it is fairly similar to Richard Nixon and not SSA influenced. I have had others claim both vague Northwestern and Northeastern European similarity but atypical for specific countries. It is understandably hard for many to guess correctly because I am quite mixed with one parent mostly NW Euro with some NE Euro and the other Ashkenazi.

My South American fellows almost always recognize me as another South American and try speaking Spanish to me almost right away. To Non South Americans, I've been guessed as Balkan, Native American (Lot of Natives here are mixed, with some looking like a bronze skinned black haired psuedo-Atlantid with a minor Asiatic-like looking influence, so that's probably why I'll sometimes be guessed as that), however most will just be unsure about what I am and ask me.

One time at my job a middle-aged Romanian lady (Not born in Romania but that was her ethnicity) asked me what ethnicity I was out of the blue/conversation opener, I think she might've thought I was Balkan/Romanian or something.

My own cousins even say things like "you sure don't look Irish". My mom and her sisters look Irish, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish (respectively), and 97% of their blood comes from the Isles, so they're like a litter of differently colored puppies in that regard.

I look quite Levantine, very much of my specific area as well, but I get a wide variety of answers from people outside of my region... when I was in France, Italy it was a mix leaning towards being right, but I swear since I have come to work in the US they have all been telling me Southern Europe or Jewish. Southern European I believe is purely because of my accent because they are awful at identifying them, Jewish I suppose it is my nose, but I do not 'look' either... I think Americans generally are just bad at this though, I do not fault them, it is their country.

Americans might guess wrong because Americans tend to be mixes of varied things. As for Italian, an Italian girl guessed me as one of her tribe.

Certain groups of people almost 100% guess me wrong in real life and online but not others as often oddly enough, the group the has guessed me wrong 100% of the time has been White Americans from the US but I am NOT trying to insult them at all they just could never accurately tell where I was from, this doesn't mean they are bad people ofc but just a funny observation lol. I've found Latin Americans are slightly more likely to be correct guessing where I'm from, and Europeans have been the most correct and accurate both in real life and online (I'm only taking into when they didn't know my ethnicity prior).

Also for context I lived in the US for 23 years.

I've gotten a lot of wrong guesses and some fairly good guessed as well. A few times I have asked people to guess when they brought it up as a topic of conversation lol.

Sometimes, non-White people can judge that you're more Northern European because their starting points aren't the same; they compare you to people in their ethnic group, so they can better tell that you're not one of them. You don't need to have blonde hair and blue eyes for them to guess you as German. Age can be tricky with people from other races too. An older Asian woman guessed me as a junior high school student when I was a college freshman, and it felt like my world just ended.
