Russians are not gonna have a clear perspective on Stalin and ww2, because, to this day, the authorities don't want to critically assess what happened.

About 7 million Soviets died as a direct result of the actions of the Nazis, and another 2 million as indirect results (famine, disease). The rest, up to the overall 27 million Soviet deaths, were a direct consequence of Stalin's regime actions. Basically, most of them they died as slave laborers, during the massive move of the industrial base into Siberia or while trying to meet impossible production quotas.

In other words, twice as many Soviets died because of the Soviet rule rather than Nazi genocidal actions.
