    Default Romania in the EU

Romania, with its rich history and diverse landscape, joined the European Union (EU) in 2007. This video looks at Romania's political, economic, and historical background. We'll then explore how Romania is represented in the EU and its relationship with the organisation. Our goal is to understand the ties and challenges between Romania and the EU since their union.

    I saw this recently

Bogdan Glăvan (economist) states that in 2023 EU funds constituted 4.4% of the Romanian GDP. So, without EU the real deficit, in terms of money generated in the country compared to the spending, would be 10.4% not the current 6% official figure. The country is really dependent of these funds, hence following the EU orders closely.
Even with this financial backing, Romania managed to get a 2% GDP growth for 2023. If the funds from EU would run dry, we would experience even bigger financial troubles.

In other words: the country is a drain on our budget as it's us Western European taxpayers that foot the bill.

If Romania wants to have some independent future from the EU (not to take orders for example that go against the will of the population), it would somehow have to manage its dependence on these EU funds.

It's surely less in Poland (guess like 1%), but that only partly explains why Poland does not follow EU orders as closely.

On the other hand the Old EU's only chance at developing further seems to be backing the Central and South-Eastern European states, because they're the only ones that develop fast enough to keep Europe's economy alive:

Or, perhaps, pour it into the regions. France and Spain have almost empty countrysides and their agriculture is in dire need of rationalisation. Moving jobs and housing to the countryside could alleviate some of our problems. Northern and Central Italy are still salvagable if they can industrialise further as well. The challenge would be Greece and Southern Italy and let's not forget that Poland's rise is almost exclusively due to EU funds and Western companies gutting Western industry.

According to EU environmental standards, Romania has to convert its power plants running on coal.

National technical operator of natural gas transmission system in Romania, Transgaz plans to build several new pipelines connecting the gas fields in the Black Sea, to the new power plants that are being built at Ișalnița and Turceni, and the Mintia power plant in Hunedoara which is transitioning from coal to natural gas.

Transgaz is building other pipelines too in addition to those, the project all in all costing 554 million euros.
Transgaz director, Ion Sterian, said that the European Commission gave a 6.8 million euros grant for the Mintia pipeline, but that was it. Therefore the technical operator is hoping to get 350 million euros in loans from banks, since the European Comision is only partly financing several of its projects.
