Default In your country, how commonly do shops, services and public transport operate on Christmas Day?

In the UK, public transport on Christmas Day is pretty much non-existent, while only some small corner shops, taxis and A & E medical services/emergency services operate. Some pubs will also open to serve Christmas lunch.

When it comes to services, it's almost like any other day.

Here in America, virtually everything except for the odd convenience store or Chinese/Thai/Indian restaurant is shut down. Even grocery stores are out of commission for us.

It's like any other day because it's a Muslim country.

Service in general: Peruvians always do everything last minute so all the shops are open and transport is available too. Some could close earlier than usual tho.

So which major public holidays do things shut down, if any?

On the first day of Ramadan Bairam, most places tend to close down. Public transportation still runs, but at reduced frequencies.

Public services will be out, due to strikes who take people hostages in exchange of raises. Since they negociate with terrorisms, it's every years.

Pretty normal. Shops may shut down earlier and there may less buses roaming around, but that's it. Offices and factories are usually closed during the holidays.
