Early in its invasion of Ukraine, Russia claimed that the Russian-Chinese partnership had no limits. Not long after, the Chinese were quick to rectify this sentiment and make it clear that there were indeed limits to this relationship.

With its only real friends being Iran and North Korea, if Russia wants to win the war in Ukraine, it desperately needs China's support. But China has other plans, and it would like nothing better than if Russia lost this war. And not just any loss - the more catastrophic, the better.
