The other half? 175 cm is close to the average of the countries those players come from.

There are tons successful footballers who are tall (C. Ronaldo, Zidane, Ibrahimovic come to my mind, but there are much more).
Height in soccer is not as important as in basketball, but it is an exaggeration to say "short people are better at soccer".

180 cm is a much better height in modern football than 160-165.

It depends on position really, for example most goalkeepers are pretty tall since it is easier for taller people have bigger area of goal within their grasp.

Shorter people can do good offensive players, but at the same time it's mostly tall people doing playing on most positions in pro level football, therefor I simply disagree with the thesis in the title of this thread
