Which nation, in your opinion, has the greatest architecture?

For me its Austria and Czech Republic, although I have a soft spot for Germany and Japan too.

Mediterranean countries are overrated for me imho, including South of France.

I would say same if they didn't have such big % of literally decaying buildings. First of all, any building should serve its purpose and being a historical monument is a secondary purpose. Of the Southern Europe I'd prefer Spain.

Portugal, Brazil sadly have few Barroque construcions left, but the ones like in Ouro Preto take my breathe off

I am not just saying it as a patriot, but I think that the line between Gdansk and Dunkirk has some of the best architecture Europe has to offer. I am a brick lover and I just love Brick Gothic, Brick Expressionism. Dutch Neoclassicm etc.

Probably because they are very many and need plenty of money to maintain them. Second probably because Italians are very conservative then it comes to modern buildings restoration. But compared to the rest of Europe, Italy have the most sophisticated and unique architecture. Many local cities have a unique quality to look ancient, medieval and modern at the same time.
