Default Is the influence of non-Balkan genetic influence overstated?

How wide spread was the Hunnic and later the Turkish/Ottoman/etc influence genetically within the Balkans and how significantly is this seen today in modern populations? Is it true that there is a major difference between the appearance of Northern/Southern balkan peoples.

A 10 years old study found no strong evidence of "middle eastern" gene flow from ottoman times in balkan.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4141785/

Based on my personal observation in my 23andme match list, vast majority of my Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian matches don't show any stretch of middle eastern DNA, rather, it was from time to time one or two specks of East Asian of about 10-20 megabases in length in their chr painting.

I assume for some Romanians and Hungarians this pattern may be stronger.

There was some insignificant Avar, Magyar or Cuman genetic influence
