Their ruling class was Tungusian-like, but Pannonian Avars were extremely varied. In the old paper, of all the samples analyzed, the 2 Avars (A1819 and A1821) with the richest and highest status were also the most East Eurasian.

Why would the ruling class have been Tungus-Altaic? Not even Turkic people were that much East Eurasian/Mongoloid.

The core Avars are determined in an earlier paper to have come from the Rouran Khaganate, which was purely Mongolic/East Asian. They had very recently migrated abt. 7000 to 8000 kilometers.
