They didn't evolve epicanthic folds for their eyes to not bulge, they evolved slanted eyes, slanted eyes and epicanthic folds are different things. East asians have these 3 things:

1-non-deep set eyes
2-slanted eyes
3-epicantic folds (non-double eyelids)

40% of the Japanese have double eyelids because of their Jomon (Aoshima) DNA, that DNA made those 40% 25% caucasoid because you need to be 25% caucasoid to have double eyelids. Those 40% of Japanese have double eyelid, but they still have non-deep set slanted eyes.

Koreans just get double eyelid surgery.
