According to comment of one Croat living in Ireland they were Irish Travellers. And he got that information from his Irish friends.

I have people - friends and acquaintances - tell me all sorts of things. I just don't believe what one person says unless it's verified by others who aren't known to speak without thought, or from my own research into the matter.

Why wouldn't I believe a recent returnee from Ireland? If fits with what others say. Ireland has white trash problem.

They are called Gypsies because they are nomads and low class like Gypsies, marry young, do petty crime, collect scrap metal, are dirty and similar. Genetically they are pure Irish but with time separated from mainstream Irish cluster because of inbreeding and isolation. I think they mostly descend from poor peasants evicted from Ulster during British plantation era.

Many Irish boxers come from this subgroup. But there is little positive about them. Really low people.
