    Default Who loves the 90s?!

    I know I do.

The 90s - especially the early and mid 90s - was a time of great films. There was a great independent film scene.

The 90s was a great time for popular music (moving away from the hair bands of the 80s).

The 90s was a golden age of humor.

The greatest comedy sketch show of all time: Mr. Show with Bob & David.

The greatest sketch of all time:

The early 90s was when there was a shift from cartoons that were basically commercials for toys to more intelligent material.

The early 90s was a great time for comic books. Dark Horse Comics was expensive ($2.50; half my weekly allowance) but well worth the cost.

NJ Deviils 8th seed in the Eastern Conference sweep the team with the best record in the league the Detroit Red Wings to win the Stanley Cup. The greatest upset in NHL history.

    Hail victory!

Showcasing my mom's photography skills. "Tails" or what are basically mullets was the the cool thing for a year or so around '90 and '91 where I grew up and I was totally cool.

I think that the 90s were a more liberal and permissive time than the 80s, at least in the US,
and thus temporarily a more artistically free and creative time,
as reflected in music (especially alternative rock and electronic) and film!
    I think that more taboos were openly expressed in film during the 1990s;
the 1980s mainstream was more wholesome.

I prefer the fashion of the 1990s, and as an adult I prefer the films of the 1990s. The 1980s was before my time anyway.

But the new wave music of the 1st half of the 1980s was special and lost forever.

I also think that the 1990s was the first mishmash decade, without a unifying cultural aesthetic:

American society split into many subcultures around this time, and this only intensified in future decades.

My favorite 90's cartoon was Animaniacs. I also liked Pinky and the Brain which was my Mom's favorite.

My favorite 90's movies are There's Something About Mary and Titanic.

Activism was genuine in the 1990s. Tree-hugging activism was the real thing in the 1990s.
Julia Hill spent 2 years living in a very tall tree in Oregon and saved it from being cut down.

    Today,
the Greens cut down forests and kill birds and whales for wind farms, and destroy land with solar farms.

Today's protests are about blocking roads and defacing art because of carbon or some nonsense.
Bill Gates destroys entire forests supposedly for "carbon capture" when trees are the best carbon capture of all!

It was a pretty magic time to be alive. The internet launched, people got computers into their homes, the music was great and so were the movies (Tarantino was at his peak with True Romance, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction). The video games got 3D graphics. The Cold War had ended and there were great hopes for the future. You could start a fight man to man (this might not apply to New York though where the OP is from) whereas you today can't even look at someone sideways without risking getting shot.

90s musical nostalgia despite the title!
Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana remind me of suburban California and the alternative rock of the time

Personal computers were so bulky back then. Remember Compaq? And the 1990s was the birth of the Internet for the masses.

    Laptops were improving too!

Windows was so much simpler and better in the 1990s (aside from viruses),
I still have computers with Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP (not connected to the Internet), no new Windows since the early 2000s.
Microsoft and Bill Gates were still predators, but not the monstrosities they are today!
