Interesting about Macedonians in Serbia is their concentration in southern Banat, especially in Pančevo and surrounding villages. Macedonians around Pančevo were colonized by Tito inside second colonization of Vojvodina 1945-48. They settled in former German houses whose owners were expelled by communists, same as Serbs which are colonized in Vojvodina in that period (from BiH, Croatia, Montenegro and central/western Serbia). I high school in my class was one girl from Pančevo descandant of Macedonian colonists after WW2. She was baptized in Macedonian Orthodox Church and claimed she is ethnic Macedonian regardless she speak only Serbian. Macedonians which settled to Serbia in 19th and first half of 20th century are serbified quite fast, some of them even when they lived in Macedonia had Serbian identity or they were pro-Serbian. Their descendants are regular Serbs. On the other hand Macedonian minority in Serbia are Tito's colinists and their descendants and individual settlers from Yugo communist period and their descendants.

They are very different with Bulgarians by mentality and traditions. But, original Macedonian culture of the region is more plebeian, Bulgarian higher culture dominated there, all the saints, Fathers of Church, englighteners were Bulgarian. Communists as usual damaged the superior culture in favor of plebeian/inferior (Ukraine is an example, too).

Before the era of sectarian nationalisms raised their head, a Macedonian who lifted up in the society would probably become a Serbian/Bulgarian etc getting the naturally superior identity of a bigger ethnic group which has cultural influence over his tribe.

I like and dislike macs at the same time. They are merry and simple but this Ancient Macedonia mythology makes me sick. I see something from Ukrainians just not that exaggerated
