    Default Somerset Time

A Conservative MP has suggested Somerset should have its own time zone, with its clocks running up to 15 minutes behind the rest of the UK.

Jacob Rees-Mogg has put down an amendment to a Commons bill on the UK's time zone arguing for the county to be able to set its own time locally.
He said this was the practice before times were standardised in the 1840s.
However, the amendment is unlikely to be voted upon when the Daylight Savings Bill is debated on Friday.

    Spoiler!

I was told as a kid to give Somerset time to non-Somerset folk to make them late. I'd quite fancy Somerset having its own time period. We are a very unique breed of people. up

All for it. I am for the restoration of Dutch Time but this time I would like to invite the Belgians (and maybe even the French and Luxembourgers) to join us.

Maybe we should then simplify time zones in Europe instead:

    Portugal: GMT-1
    Pink: GMT
    Yellow: GMT+1
    Green: GMT+2

    Atlantic
    (Iceland)
    West
(Britain, Ireland, Portugal, France, Spain, the Faroes,, Monaco, the Benelux)
Central (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Liechtenstein, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, former Yugoslavia, Albania and Greece)
East (whatever is more to the East apart from Russia which has it's own timezones).

And then do away with DST ?

I was reading about the 'double summertime' debate a few years ago in a news article. Apparently it would boost tourism even more in the south and save extra energy too.
