    Default Ethnonyms as given names

    * "Frank" and "French" are by far the most productive :
    - François, Franz, Francesco, Francisco, Francis, Frances etc.
    - Françoise, France, Francette, Francine
    - Frank, Franco, Franjo, Ferenc
    etc.

    * From "German":
    - Germain (fr), Germano (it/es), Dieter (de), what else?
    Russian Gherman is a derivate of German or Herrmann?

    * Scott (en, self-explanatory)

    * Norman (en), Normand (fr, popular in Canada, less common in France)

    * Roman, Romain, Romano

    * Sabine, Sabina (in conformity with the Roman legend, Romano is almost always masculine, while Sabine is almost always feminine!)

    Do you know others I'm not aware of?

    [ No, Sven is not related to svensk)

    EDIT :
    - OOps, I forgot Italo, strongly associated to the "Risorgimento", now desperately old-fashioned.

    - Lorraine doesn't count, it is used in French as a feminine for Lothaire (fr) or Lothar (de) which gave the province Lorraine/Lothringen its name.

    Armenians have names (actually ethnonyms) for men - Armen or Armenak, for women - Armenui or Armine. In very old times there were tribes of some people called Armens. They became later a part of Armenian nation and by their name neighbour people Greeks and Persians started to use word Armenian.

    Also names with the same meaning for men - Hayk or Haykaz or Haykazun, for women - Haykui or Haykanush. Hayk was the progenitor, patriarch and founder of the Armenian nation. "Haykazun" literally means descendant of Hayk (i.e. Armenian). From name of Hayk actually derived self-dezignation of Armenians. That Hayk fought very strong Babylonian king Bel and killed him.

    Almost equal to ethnonim is very old name Ara. Ara was a king of Ararat. That Ara was very handsome man, his nickname was Ara the Beautiful, and mighty Assyrian queen Shamiram (Semiramis) fell in love with him. But Ara rejected her. Being furious over that rejection she waged war, sent armies and ordered to catch Ara alive and bring to her. But Ara was killed in battle. Shamiram took his dead corpse and licked wounds of Ara in desperate try to revive him but it didn't help.

    Also there are lots of Armenian names derived from names of provinces and towns of Armenia. For men f.e. name Sasun (also name for province). By the way Sasun region of historic Armenia (now temporarily in Turkey) is very famous region for being birthplace of really fascinating Armenian epos called "Sasna crer" ("Crazy men from Sasun") reflecting fights of Armenians against Arab invaders in 600-800 years. (Arabs after destroying Persia invaded Armenia). Another name Taron (also province) etc.
    Name for women - Talin (from town) etc. Actually there are many other such Armenian names derived from names of provinces and towns.

    Dieter came from Dietrich < Theoderic < *þeudō-rīks. *þeudō means Folk, People + *rīks means Ruler, King.

    However *þeudō =/= *þiudiskaz means Folksy, Popular and what is a root of Deutsch.

    uh oh ah...and what about "me"?
    After Armens and Hayk comes Nairi from Mesopotamian, Hittite, and Urartean/Araratian sources., Nairi was an Armenian tribe from Armenian Hihgland and it is today a name which I like a lot.
    Armenian DNA Project

    over 300 individuals that have already been tested, revealing that the Armenian branches of DNA are at the root of many branches in Europe.

    Armenians belong to 13 distinct genetic groups that go back tens of thousands of years, while at the same time there is no trace of invaders in their DNA in the last 4000 years

    I believe that is derived from Slavic languages calling Germans by the Slavic word for them, Nemtzi.
