And what about George Bush standing on a USS aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf 3 days after the invasion of Iraq. Next to a banner that said "Mission Accomplished" What kind of delusional thinking was that?

Not at all actually as they haven't been colonial powers for at least 50 years (apart from Britain and France). So each one of them has to import resources too.
Perhaps because we are a trading nation is our port the biggest in Europe and one of the biggest in the world - much bigger and much more important then any American port.

Except that the concept of war crimes didn't exist back then.
Considering this kind of thing happened more than once in Dutch colonial history, it goes without saying that such behavior was not "un-Dutch."
I have a branch of my family about 12 generations back that were Dutch that settled New Amsterdam in the employ of the Dutch West India Company. Suffice it to say they weren't there to play chess.

Part of what I see here is the redrawing of colonial powers in such a way that only the US and a couple other countries are condemned based on recent history culling out the rest, coincidentally leaving the Dutch with clean hands and a supposed moral high position.
The fact remains that in the real world, economics does not operate off feministic or Socialistic notions of cooperation and hand-holding. It's competetive, and it can be brutal. Trading partnerships have very much - as they always have - to do with the exertion of political power in a region.

Reckless and out of touch with reality based on what? Besides from his error with the invasion of Iraq, I don't think he was that horrible. His big flaw is that he was never particularly conservative, and that he was too loose with spending. However, he faced a domestic attack like the US had never seen before, thus his tenure was very unique and has to be judged within that context. It's certainly not fair to blame him and him alone for the mental anguish that volunteer soldiers have endured.

Those who are cheering for a war with Iran, certainly don't know what is in store for them. Iran is not Iraq or Afghanistan. When Iraq was at it's strength the Americans tried to cripple it through various means, the sanctions were the last blow. Even so the Americans could not subdue the tribes in the NorthWestern and Western regions. Iran would be more than difficult to do so. I am not fan of Iran or it's government, but going there is basically igniting the flames that are not wanted nor needed. Both Siberyak and Civis Batavi are right on the money of this one actually.
