So I was doing something completely random when this question popped. This is mostly aimed at Europeans, but I suppose Americans can tag along aswell.
Let's assume we're talking about someone whose origin was another European country not much related to yours* who's living in your country, and was/has been:
- born abroad from foreign parents
- highly educated
- working positively in your country for decades
- fluent/integrated in your country
This man (or woman) then decided to join an important political party in your country, something on the centre-to-right spectrum, and succesfully climbed the political ladder on his/her way to the top ranks and, when abroad on ocasional diplomatic missions, defended your country's interests fiercely, and on internal matters succesfully being able to bring up the living standard for your people, creating useful jobs, imporving education, etc.. - basically something a good politician would aim to do.
Let's also assume he/she was not very fond on immigration from non-european countries (despite being an immigrant him/herself), especially not uneducated ones living in hardships and thus more likely to commit crimes etc..
Would this person have your trust? Would you be pleased to have him/her in your country representing you, and would you ever vote for him/her?
I know it's a very subjective question, but still would be interesting to read your thoughts on this.
*examples:Finland/Greece, UK/Italy, Spain/Poland, etc..
