Part 1
From the union (1137) of Payronella of Aragon and Raymond Berengar IV of Catalonia,
came their first son and first ruler of both territories, the Count-King
Alphonse the Chaste (1164-1196)
troubadour, friends with Richard the Lionheart, had wished a Pyrenean Unity, uniting the various lands on both sides of the Pyrenees under the rule of the House of Barcelona.
He married Sancha of Castile:
and had the next king,
Peter the Catholic (1196-1213)
first to be crowned by the Pope,
led the Aragon-Catalan force at the joint battle of Las Navas de Tolosa against the Muslims.

Peter's stupid act of bravado in 1213 versus the French at the battle of Muret made Toulouse go from being a vassal of Aragon-Catalonia to be a part of France forever.
Rue Peter of Aragon, allied to Raymond VII,
killed at the Battle of Muret, 1213.
He had married Maria of Montpellier and after consummating one night...:icon_cool:
they had their only son, who would be the next king, the great James I the Conqueror.....
