You can tell alot about a countries foriegn outlook by the size of their military. Large countries like germany, France, Braitain, with a similar population have a much less standing force than Turkey, but this is because their focus is on diplomacy and economy.

Countries that have a large army relative to others; North Korea, Israel, Turkey, China, Iran, do so because their focus is on percieved emediate external threats... or imperialistic goals To be fair USA has a large military for this reason as well, the world police.
