    Macedonian Magazine Proposes Federation With Bulgaria

    SOFIA, BULGARIA - The Macedonian magazine “Fokus” launched a cover edition proposing a federation with Bulgaria. They proposed a federation with Bulgaria as a possible way of Macedonia joining the EU and NATO.
    Currently, Macedonia is struggling to join both organizations due to various reasons, notably the naming dispute with Greece. While Bulgarians and Macedonians are more or less ethnically and even verbally identical, a serious proposal for a joint federation or unification remains a controversial topic.

    Fokus ran an edition with a picture of Bulgaria’s PM Boyko Borisov and the Macedonian PM Zoran Zaev and the headline “Federation with Bulgaria for entering in the EU and NATO.” Riste Lyobotenski is the author of this proposition. He used to work as an advisor to Macedonia’s first president, Kiro Gligorov. While Lyobotenski admits this is a novel idea, he also thinks it can work as a way to integrate into the West’s “Euro-Atlantic” ideals.

    Currently, Macedonia is involved in a naming feud with Greece. The Macedonian TV station “Star” covered the topic on a federation with Bulgaria, asking its viewers the question “Is it possible to circle around Greece and her blocking?”

    It depends on what the agreement is. If we are going to change our name to Upper Macedonia, this is OK. If we have to change our language and identity, then this is not OK. In addition to this, if we are to be bilingual - Albanian/Macedonian, then I would seriously consider union with Bulgaria. The name should be Federation of Bulgaria-Macedonia, or something along those lines, with Macedonia being a republic, and the Macedonian nation and language being official.

    This photo doesn't match your signature though - so you people are incoherent liars obviously as starters

    Secondly - integration with Bulgaria is the correct decision but not everyone in your hamlet wants to be Bulgarian - only Bulgarians like you do which is perfectly ok - you will have Bulgarian passports and be taught by Bulgarians which is only correct. As you won't be stealing their nor our cultural heritage and turn it something demented manufactured from a Macdonalds factory

    Integration is already happening. About 100,000 Macedonians already have Bulgarian passports. Our historical differences are also being worked out;

    If this ever gets off the ground, it will be worse for you. Bulgarians have already recognized our language, and they recognize the current reality of the Macedonian ethnicity. Macedonians will also recognize that we had a common history with the Bulgarians in the past. A federation with Bulgaria will keep the Macedonian name on the map and the Macedonian people will have a stronger backer in the Bulgarian Army and NATO to ward off the Greek and Albanian hyenas....

I always say my preference so I will not depart from it on this occasion. I think that the idea is good for the Macedonians and the Bulgarians. The Macedonians will unite in both countries by bringing the impression that the Bulgarians have finally united.

    A first as Bulgarian, Macedonian PMs jointly celebrate May 24 in Rome

    https://sofiaglobe.com/2018/05/24/a-...ay-24-in-rome/

    For the first time, the Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia are jointly celebrating in Rome as their countries mark May 24, the day of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

    The day celebrates the Cyrillic alphabet and Slavonic learning and literature.

    Every year in recent decades, Bulgaria and Macedonia have sent official delegations to the Italian capital that customarily includes, among other things, venerating the tomb of Saint Cyril and an audience with the Pope.

    In 2018, against a background of an official warming of relations between Sofia and Skopje that significantly has included the ratification of a good-neighbourliness agreement, several of the events jointly involve the delegations from Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia.

    During their two-day visits to Rome, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov and his Macedonian counterpart will attend the opening of a Macedonian-Bulgarian cultural programme organised by the ministries of culture of the two countries.
