“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”

Amazing! Who could dare to eat those gorgeous breads? I live near a German tourist town, and go there all the time. In the summer, "backofen brot" (German bake oven bread) is baked in an authentic outdoor wood stove. At Christmas and Easter, they have a huge array of breads, including Stollen bread and Rye breads. Stollen reminds of Ukrainian Easter Kulich bread, but not cylindrical.
Oh, and LOL at the giant Lithuanian breads. Why so big, I wonder?

We are making similar types to those of Lithuanian but these are not ours. From what I gather some loaves weigh between 5kg-10kg. Bread can be cut on request. The largest loaf in Belarus sold in a shop that I 've seen was around 2.5kg. I would not like eating one month old bread . I like it fresh.

German bakeries are popular around the world. That lady puts so much time effort and time into bread making. The size of Lithuanian bread surprised me when I saw it. If our family needs more bread for guests or occasions we just buy more loaves. One Lithuanian girl wrote that 5-10kg is not all that much for a family of 5 for 1 week. But I think the size of Lithuania bread just shows how much they love eating bread.

Do people around the world love rye-bread as much as north-eastern Europeans?
