Yeah... that's why "don't ask - don't tell" was such a good idea and when when the conscript/volunteer got his psychological/medical examinations here and the moment the applicant told them that he was a homosexual he got himself a nice big fat S5 for mental instability and was shown the door.

But now that the policy (at least in the U.S army - I am not sure about the Dutch army and I will need to look that one up) was been revoked those that go out to fight should be treated as heroes and veterans. That's the price that is to be paid for revoking "don't ask don't tell".

Well there were a few known officers who would keep there shit to themselves, I do know of a hyper masculine Homosexual SGT who was plying newbie 17 to 18 year olds with alcohol and raping them, obviously discharged but he'd been doing it a long time. Note most of the shit gets swept under the rug.

Diversity in general lowers morale, hinders productivity and brings with it administration nightmares.

A military is generally a reflection of the population, fighting forces have resisted the degeneration for a long time, society on the other hand...

But then again: not every progressive idea is so bad. The Dutch army is fully unionised but it still kicked Afghan ass down in Uruzgan and Chora valley.

Ah.. we dismantled "don't ask - don't tell" in 1974 but the odd thing was that we remained a fighting force (actually growing in size during the 1980s and sending more and more soldiers to West Germany). I personally think we should get rid of homosexuals in the military but if one looks at it from the numbers point of view (small country) we could ill afford to do it now.

Nevertheless, gays could still legally be passed over for promotion simply because of their sexual orientation. In 1986, Rene Holtel, then a major, was told by his commander that though he was an excellent officer, "he wouldn't want me to rise in rank because I was gay." Holtel went to his superiors and fought the camouflage ceiling, which was abolished in 1987, leading to the birth of the Foundation for Homosexuality in the Military, which Holtel, now elevated to lieutenant colonel, chairs.

I feel for the US military, your soldiers need to have a healthy disrespect for the PC nutters, then the traditional culture can not be broken.

What I initially said about morale, etc. is mentioned in the US Code as, in part:

(6) Success in combat requires military units that are characterized by high morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion.

(7) One of the most critical elements in combat capability is unit cohesion, that is, the bonds of trust among individual service members that make the combat effectiveness of a military unit greater than the sum of the combat effectiveness of the individual unit members.

No shit?! The ban on gays in the U.S. military and even "don't ask, don't tell" from the Clintonistas was, up till Obama, upheld as lawful.
