I've always considered scandinavians the "whitest." It's a loose term though. Anyone can have their own definition.

Eventhough British Islanders dont have the Fair Hair and Eyes frequent as Scandinavians and Northern Germans, the Anglo-Saxons are the most depigmented skin wise.

According to the Jablonski/Chaplin skin reflectance list, the only German sample mentioned (MAINZ) is slightly lighter than any British or Irish series.

Mainz is not exactly in the blonder North of Germany either.

All I know is that tonight I was looking at some of my early childhood photos from ages 5-8...and damn....my skin was nearly transparent it was so white. I was, quite literally....a casper lol. I could have stepped off the shores of Ireland, Norway, or the rest of the British Isles and no one would have known any different.

My observations have shown that the lightest skin tones come from the British Isles (including Ireland) and Norway.....you can probably include Northern Germany in there as well

ETA: Swedes do seem to tan better than the Norwegians do. There is a vague golden tinge to their skin that the Nords and Brits seem not to have. I am sure there are exceptions, of course....but I have yet to find a Swede that cannot tan. Not the case for those of us with UK/German/Norwegian bloodlines, though.

There is no person who can not tan except Albinos who have damaged cells melanocytes which produce melanin.
Its only a matter of duration of exposure to the sun ( in a piece ) per day for a certain period of time ( days ) after being burned and peeled for a body to engage defense mechanism against UV rays which stimulate melanocytes to produce melanin. Some does need longer or shorter time but eventually people will start to tan.

Most East Norwegians can tan just as well as any Swede...


In West Norway you can find the palest but also the swarthiest Norwegians(must be the Celtic admixture), apparently the also have higher frequency of redhair than we got over here.

Isolated Melanocytes of redheads produce the most melanin although some mechanism prevents them to produce it in so large quantities.
