That's true, though it is a sign of prickly Swedish neutrality to dislike both Russia and the US for equally baseless reasons. It's a national tradition.

It seems to be a new thing in the US to dislike Iran for even more baselss reasons than ours (though, we actually have fairly good reasons to dislike you and Russia).

I've actually never met a Russian, online or off, that likes Putin. His fans are usually Western political dissidents on the far right. It's reminiscent of the Marxists who still admired Uncle Joe long after the Russians themselves saw the ugly truth of the regime.

Я даже не вникаю в это всё. Просто советую обратить внимание на некоторые общие экономические вопросы в мире . Почему например мы -Русские имеем хорошие перспективы и будущее - и почему некоторые "процветающие" сегодня западные государства скоро начнут нищенствовать в прямом смысле слова - потому что они ничего не создают - только потребляют - вслед за Грецией пойдут другие страны ЕС . Это организация скоро исчезнет - кстати США тоже ждёт дефолт - рано или поздно - их пирамида не вечна .
Я не знаю что будет завтра , но жду с нетерпением больших перемен .

я думаю перемен не будет.Россия для Путина,как дитя он создал сегодняшнюю ситуацию и исправлять ему её будет очень сложно.да против его внешней политики я ничего не имею,но против внутренней всеми руками и ногами.неужели тебе нравится как ты живешь или хотя бы не замечаешь как живут другие россияне.я переживаю за будущее России.посмотри на образование они полностью его разваливают!при таких раскладах неужели эта власть имеет благородные цели...да многие говорят сейчас лучше жить чем раньше,но это если с какой стороны посмотреть.например всё с/х развалили у нас ничего почти не производят в России.ещё в ВТО вступили вообще ''молодцы''.здравоохранение вообще не какое.но при этом наверно народ не должен забывать,что власть просто нас обманывает.и многие это понимают,но в итоге голосуют за Путина со словами,что больше не за кого.

Based on the reactions of Russian citizens, it is evident that Putin has succeeded to create an image of a man of steel in the opinion of non-Russians...but he failed to do the same in opinion of it's own people.
Fighting powerful oligarchs of Yeltsin era seems to have been farce for political gain. He fought them in a selective manner, also many new oligarchs appeared during his leadership.

The way he had arranged the problem in Chechnya is temporary. In the very first moment that Russia will reduce investments, will appear problems with the inhabitants of Chechnya, Dagestan etc.
Despite economic growth, Putin will not be able to allay all separatist peoples there, in a long term.

Why on earth would Putin halt migration when non-white immigrant ethnicities like Uzbeks tripled in 2002-2010? The ethnic minorities (including those from ethnic republics in Russia) are completely socially unprotected, and hence can easily be used by United Russia and Putin in mass rallies or to give themselves 100% votes. They're like the Africans for Labour in the UK.

I think most posters outside Russia are unaware of the situtation in Russia's demographics. I know I am. Could you, Humanophage, enlighten us about this? Is immigration from Caucasus and Central Asians increasing? Did it increase more under Yeltsin or under Putin? Has Putin done something about it, in favor or against it?

I read a recent statistics on abortions and it's pretty shocking. I was honestly very surprised and I really don't get how it's possible (Russian health care is crappy but still). Might be the effect of small towns and villages cause as far as I know Russian teens in big cities are more or less educated about sexual life and consequences of unsafe sex.

I tell you why: because there is no credible alternative who could look after Russia better. And yes, the Americans will most certainly take advantage of a revolutionary and disunified Russia. They did it after the fall of the SU and their intentions are still the same.

I have no interest in doing so. As an outside observer there is no emotion present when I discuss Russia. Perhaps I'm just a little more objective here.

Russia has many problems, but to blame it all on Putin is quite lame. Before Putin most of these problems were already there. They won't vanish into thin air all of a sudden. Russia is a huge country and administration thereof is not easy. To lay the blame on one man - without presenting a workable alternative - comes across as a shouting hatred full of emotion. Why don't Russian people start taking care of themselves? Do they need a Czar to do their thinking for them?

It seems, on the contrary, that whatever Putin does, you will just state some propaganda stamp like "he boosted the economy" (when oil price grew 5-8 times accounting for 50% of Russia's exports and the economy grew exactly like in Russia in all of Eastern Europe*, while in the oil states like Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan it grew much more), "he boosted birth rates" (even though they are an obvious consequence of the age pyramid), "he deals with migrants" (even though Central Asian numbers tripled), etc. The number of terrorist acts increased:

That's the typical response of a person who takes the information that the Russian media gives them as gold. It's funny and sad at the same time.
