MOSCOW (Reuters) - Extortion by corrupt officials in Russia has got so bad that some Western multinationals are considering pulling out altogether, the head of a U.S. anti-bribery group said in an interview.

Alexandra Wrage, whose non-profit organization TRACE International advises firms on how to avoid bribery, told Reuters the "rampant endemic" corruption in Russia was much worse than in other big emerging economies.

"My recommendation is: 'Maybe you should reconsider doing business in Russia,'" she said. "I am considerably more optimistic about Nigeria than I am about Russia on this issue."

Putin is a strong leader, I see this as good news for Russia.

    More on Russian corruption:

According to some expert estimates, the market for corruption in the country exceeded US$240 billion in 2006.[1] The Russian think tank Indem estimates that bribes accounted for 20% of Russia's GDP as of 2005.[2]

According to a poll conducted in early 2010, 15% of Russians reported to have paid a bribe in the past 12 months.[3] The overall amount of bribes in the Russian economy during the last decade skyrocketed from $33 billion to more than $400 billion per year in Putin's government, according to Georgy Satarov, former aide to Boris Yeltsin.

The amount of brainwash done in Russia must be so horrific, Nero probably thinks that she lives in the best country in the world.

Russia is indeed more corrupt than many African countries:

Yeah, 95% turnout in Chechnya again, massive fraud in the ethnic republics right in front of the cameras, a pathetic Mordovia with its little dictator, identical votes in Caucasian commissions. Like this all over again:

    Say, http://www.vybory.izbirkom.ru/region...=2052000390415

The cameras were turned off at 8PM when anyone could easily fake the votes, people filming what was going on there were assaulted. In some cases, as in Kaliningradskaya Oblast, the cameras were turned off well before 8PM.

Let's see how they will use the armed forces they stuffed the centre with tomorrow. I rather doubt an actual violent rebellion:

Again, they brought people from all over Russia on buses to pretend they've got 100 000 Muscovites. Why can't they have local meetings in their own respective cities, as the opposition does?

The Russian people have voted. And they have told Washington, Wallstreet and the oligarchs to take a hike.

I may not agree with Putin on a whole lot of subjects but the alternative is progressively (no pun intended) worse: namely what we have. (the stooges of the banks, the EU and the U.S.A).

Wake up and smell the coffee.
