Default Finnish population stands at 5.4 million

The Finnish population grew by almost 26,000 according to figures issued by Statistics Finland on Friday. This is the fastest population growth since 1991 the figures showed.

For five years running more people left Finland than the number of births.

At the end of 2011, the number of Finnish citizens permanently resident in Finland was 5,218,134, of whom 101,306 had been born abroad. Foreign citizens resident in Finland numbered 183,133, or 3.4 per cent of the population.

Statistics Finland says the population of Finland stood at 5.4 million at the end of last year.

The last time Scandinavia overpopulated all hell broke loose. So homosexuality is a good thing. Keep their numbers down.

Short growing season and generally harsh climate with long winters means that only recently have these northern latitudes been able to support such large populations.

Around 1750, the population of Finland was around 450 000. In 1800, 833 000. 200 years later, we are 5.4 million.

Well I think Finland received a lot of immigrants also.
For example I had some neighbours when I was a little boy near my grandmother's house.
After fall of comunism, they left to Finland,a father,a mother with their two childrens.
Only their old grandmother remained in Romania.

    Comparing with Sweden

    1755: 1 878 000

    1815: 2 465 000

    2010: 9 415 570

As Ripper is saying: we have, if anything, rather large populations comparing to the historical populations.

Finland has few immigrants. Its population is around 95% Finnish/Finland Swedish or something like that.
