    Cool Numbers stations

Anyone into shortwave radio? I have always wanted to get into it. I have some friends who are complete freaks when it comes to SW. Totally into it. They have taught me about certain very strange broadcasts.

Ever heard of numbers stations? Or spy numbers? Here is a description:

"Numbers stations (or number stations) are shortwave radio stations of uncertain origin. They generally broadcast artificially generated voices reading streams of numbers, words, letters (sometimes using a spelling alphabet), tunes or Morse code. They are in a wide variety of languages and the voices are usually women's, though sometimes men's or children's voices are used." [Wiki]

Really eerie. Give a listen to a 7 minute story about Numbers Stations on American Public Radio.

Here is the coolest site (Conet Project) with free downloads of broadcasts and excellent, interesting info.

Another good site (Labyrinth 13) with audio, video and info.

Site about the Lincolnshire Poacher station.

    Pretty cool stuff, no?
