Sun tanning

Most Africans and Asians want to look as pale as possible,
but in Europe for some people it´s quite the opposite.

They want to get tanned in order to look more attractive.
Esp. now in the coming period of the year this trend is
becoming again more obvious even if scientific studies
show that too much sun exposure is not healthy for your skin and organism at all.

i think pigmentation is not important to be beautiful, there are pale girls i find attractive and brown girls i find attractive.

IMO tanning is a sign of lack of self-acceptance. A suntan comes from the body being overloaded with UV radiation and the skin responds by producing extra melanin in order to protect the nuclei of skin cells from UV damage and thus cancer.

Obsessive sun-tanning is like any other cosmetic obsession.

However, being tanned in summer just makes you look like a healthy and active person who spends much time outside.

Well I'm referring to "sun worshiper" types that go out of their way to tan and stay that way. I have a little incidental tanning from sun exposure, but I don't go out of my way to get dark tan, or a tan at all, for that matter. Some people live on tanning beds, you can tell.

I'm also referring to those that make disparaging comments about pale skin.

How are they different from disparaging remarks about ginger hair, freckles or hairiness? Is it against whiteness?

Natural tanning is healthy, and looks nice. Going to the beach and staying under the sun for hours with this only purpose is sick and dangerous.
