    Against, for a few reasons.

    1. Killing someone that you have subdued, caged and made essentially harmless to you is barbaric, and I wouldn't want it done in my name, much less to a fellow citizen by his/her own state.

    2. The criminal justice system is not infallible and never will be, if you support the death penalty then you necessarily accept that the state is not only killing some of it's own citizens, but a number of innocent ones too.

    3. Any humane criminal justice system that seeks to minimize the numbers of innocents being executed by using a robust appeals process would end up costing more to the taxpayer than simply locking a prisoner away for life would, as it already does in the USA.

I believe after watching loads of docusoaps and my own C.D.F. that the only punishment for certain crimes is Death....

I favour the death penalty, but, since third-world Brazilian courts are disastrous, I fear supporting them here. Sometimes lynching sounds like a better option.

Definitely for it. There are some crimes which simply merit death. Obviously, it should only be used when guilt can be proven beyond the shadow of a doubt, but there are absolutely times when it's called for. It seems to be dying out here in the US as well, though.

    not in the southern u.s.

I think they should give it more often, especially for pedophiles

I honestly cant believe they don't give it for that and I've never understood why not either.

the only exception is if maybe one person is found guilty of multiple cases of it like Jerry Sandusky but even he didn't get the death penalty, which is bullshit.

I can understand why people are against it in the sense we have a fucked up judicial system anyway which can be biased and the fear a potentially innocent person might get the death penalty at some point, especially if there was an agenda behind it but like another poster said, it should be made only for cases where the person really was proven way beyond any doubt they were guilty.

in the state I live, they actually brought back the electric chair in cases where lethal injection potentially isn't an option due to funding or some shit.

Only reason why i would be against it is because it would give the worst criminals free ticket out of paying for their crimes, i prefer that child rapists and other scum of the earth suffer in prison for the rest of their lives getting beaten up and hated.

Against it. Why? Because you can never undo the death of someone who was innocent but was mistakenly given the death penalty.

I see the death penalty as nothing more than "revenge".

I don't care much for death penalty, no. It's an easy way out for scumbags, I'd much rather see them in labour camps where they could work all day long, day out and day in, to make up for what they cost society.

agree with your second statement but the 1st is bullshit, especially if the one being out to death did that exact same thing to another "fellow citizen" or what the fuck ever, and s why he's on death row to begin with.

I know if someone killed or murdered someone I love, or my family, they would have to give them the death penalty or else I would kill that person myself and I really wouldn't give a fuck.

the death penalty is mainly about the victims and their families not the criminal, especially if he really is fucking guilty.

but I do agree with you the system is fucked up too and there are innocent people in prison, which has been proven to be true with dna testing alone at times.

it does leave the door open for the possibility of an innocent person being executed.
