Yay for communism ! And what she is saying is actually not true. There was no drug problem in Afghanistan before the 1980s.. and then they started growing it and heroin wrecked the USSR as much as it wrecked Western Europe. So her point is pretty much null-and-void.

It won't work. Because dealing will go on and the little world will get ever more hidden and ever more criminal (and thus ever more deadly) plus it would soak up LARGE amounts of taxpayer money that are better spent somewhere else.

The harshest anti-drugs countries in the world (the U.S and France) also have some of the highest numbers of people incarcerated and rates of addiction while this country has few of such problems and that's why I can't understand the position of the Rutte-cabinet.

Strong anti-drug policies are a waste of public money anyway (hello War on Drugs) and we could actually make money out of it: people use cocaine, heroine ? Good that means there is a market. So what should we do: produce it ourselves and cash in on it and because the price will be lowered there will be less crime by addicts which in consequence means that money can be spent elsewhere.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Afghanistan was a war zone. But in the regular Soviet Union there were no drugs. And there definitely wasn't heroin.

This nonsense about that "you can't combat drugs so we'll just have to legalize all drugs" is ridiculous. As Lagergeld pointed out, you just hang everyone who is involved with drugs and the problem goes away. It worked in the USSR and the entire Eastern Block.

I recommend you to read up on that stuff too. I remember reading this book dating back to 1977 ( I will have to look it up for you) where it was mentioned that some people in the USSR were already smoking hashish from Central Asia. And with the USSR being right next to China which has had a drug problem since the 19th century (at least) you can't convince me that it didn't exist.

And spending billions of taxpayer Euro's trying to find them all and hang them all while drugs keeps on coming into the country is going to be a raging success... No the American War on Drugs worked miracles.

Never mind the fact that we are dealing with a normal supply and demand issue (just normal market economics) that can be solved by producing it legally and selling it just as legally. Just put a tax on it and spend that tax on prevention programs and healthcare. Problem solved.

I lived in the USSR and everyone in family did too. No one ever heard of drugs. It didn't exist. I'm sure that if you traveled to a steppe in Kazakhstan you might be able to find drugs. But otherwise you can forget about it.

If you don't believe me then ask other Russians, they will tell you the same thing.

This is total BS. Everyone in the community knows who the local druggies are. You have those people inform the cops and the cops take the druggies away. Problem solved.

Look at what happened in China when they had opium. Or among Native Americans when they got alcohol. Giving people drugs would the same effect, a social disaster.

I actually don't think you're Russian. You were Romanian one week ago.

Russia still has very much the same drug laws as in the USSR.. and how did that go with the supply of heroin ? Ah yes.. look at your addiction figures and don't forget about counting in the 1990s as well. But with heroin you were probably correct and cocaine too as the supply wasn't there before the 1960s (coming in from South-East Asia and Latin America).

Bollocks. Most people trading in drugs are not the local druggies. They rarely even use it but just sell it to small-time dealers to make profits.

The Native Americans didn't know alcohol. So that one wouldn't go. O.K.. let me inform you of the history of drug use because you really don't seem to understand it.

    Here is the big bang:

Drug laws are relatively new. Before the 1900s cocaine and heroine were actually used as licensed medicines and until World War II there was an actual Dutch cocaine factory.

It was just a medicine and trade commodity like any other. The problems started when it was banned. Let's look at the United States to see how that went with alcohol.
