That Ashkenazi Jews are hugely over-represented in Communism in Europe can be explained by the following five factors;
a. Secularlism. Jews were looking to replace their religion with other ideologies as they assimilated.
b. Ubanisation. Jews formed the majorities in many cities and thus were more political and more "modern" (interested in modern issues such as workers rights etc) than the average country resident
c. Nationalism. Jews simply were not welcomed by many, save say the early Italian fascists, nationalist and right-wing political parties. Jews had little choice often than to join leftist parties.
d. Education. Jews were more highly educated than their average non-Jewish neighbours.
e. Persecuation. Jews were persecuted by the Tzar and had little love for the Russian elites. They were easily manipulated by the German government to help defeat the Russian elites and end the war on Germany's eastern front although they formed but 10% of the Bolsheviks due to higher levels of intelligence, education etc they often were leaders.
