England's controlled a few islands in the Caribbean for longer than that and some are still with us.
The union has left a huge legacy but we never formed one ethnicity. "British" is just a catch-all term for English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish, Cornish, Manx and Channel Islanders.
I suppose it could be used as an ethnic label by people of various British Isles ancestry, but blacks calling themselves "British" is doing it no favours.

Like I posted ages ago, names found from all over. I'd assume some of the Brits or those with Brittish ancestry have matches.
