We call gypsies: "Zingari, zigani, gitani, sintu, calderani, nomadi, etc.."...but also here, especially in northeast, is very diffused the word "Rom".

Here in Piemont we often use the word "Sintu", because many gypsies here in this region arrived from indian region of Sindh in XIV century.

yeah cigani is used too,but it is not respectful so most people try to use "rom" in official situations

Also, a minor correction: it's lo strumento, not *l'instrumento.
True, in Italian the masculine words starting in S, Z or SC (sound sh) want the article "LO" instead than "IL" -> lo zaino, lo scivolo, lo sport, lo sci, lo zoccolo.
This is a rule on which many foreigners fall.

Masculine words starting in vowel or "H" take also the article LO, but before vowel the "o" falls, so it become-> l'attore (lo attore), l'hotel, l'hamburger, l'amico, l'otorino etc.

In my region most gypsies are Roms, so we call them "roms", "romanì" (not Romani nor Rumeni), zingari or also pigri (it's slang and means "lazy people" as in general they don't work).

Anyway, ethnic romanians have nothing to do with gypsies.

We do have the words acțiune and colecție, but they are French loanwords from the 19th century. The old Romanian word for action is faptă (lat. factum) and the closest word for collection is culegere (lat. colligere).

I cannot think of a single word ending in -cție, -ment, -itate or -aj that isn't a loanword.

The 19th century fanatics wanted to make our language sound less Slavic and more Latin really bad, in order to make the claim that we're descended from the noble Latin people more credible.

^ Another reason why including Romanian wouldn't work for 'easy Romance' lessons then.

    Multumesc for the input.

It would be also interesting see how many of the "bad words" and insults are similars, in most of the romance languages....probabily because they were used among all the Empire by peasants, legionaries and low class people.

Well, probably the most similar one might be

    Portuguese: filho da puta
    Spanish: hijo de puta
    Catalan: fill de puta
    French: fils de pute
    Italian: figlio di puttana

    As well as

    Portuguese: merda!
    Spanish: ¡mierda!
    Catalan: merda!
    French: merde!
    Italian: merda!

    But then,

Spaniards prefer the pussy when angry: ¡¡COÑO!!
    Catalans prefer the balls: COLLONS!!
    Italians prefer the cock: CAZZO!!

You forget also the word "Coglione" (i don't know in other languages, btw)
