    Default LCD or CRT

I'm curious what our members own and use in terms of their home PC, so I thought we'd have a poll

This is a still-ongoing debate due to the abundance of cheap LCD and the price of CRT-quality LCD displays. It is also an issue of good CRTs lasting so long they don't need to be replaced yet. Mine is picture-perfect and 8 years old.

Personally I use my Dell P1110 (a 21" Professional grade Trinitron CRT) next to a Samsung 2253BW (22" Wide TN LCD)

If there are issues with the poll options please tell me and I will try to fix.

I waited until my CRT burned out (after five years or so), then I bought an LCD. I'll never go back to a CRT. The savings in space are probably the biggest reason for that. Fitting a CRT on a desk was always a huge hassle for me before, but it's never an issue with LCDs.

I'm with LCD (20" Benq). Not better than my old CRT (LG Flatron 17") (currently in my wardrobe) but it saves much space.

CRT and it will be until it dies, I think it is about 9 years old. I would like more space on the desk, but I can't justify the money.

Used to have a Samsung clone 19" CRT until about 2004. Something went wrong with the picture, decided it wasn't worth the $$$ to have it fixed and one late night it automagically made its way to a dumpster thoughtfully left unattended by the neighbour. The thing was massive and weighed a ton. It was useful for heating the room in winter though.

Have had a Viewsonic 19" LCD since then, the image quality is more than adequate for what I do. It's lightweight, doesn't take up much space, doesn't require a huge amount of power.

    Mega-improvement.

In my computer lab I have a few CRTs left (among them a 21" sony Trinitron from '97, which back then cost as much as a used car). For my office computer I use a 22" Samsung SyncMaster T220, which leaves me enough space on my desk for papers and all the other computer periphery I am handling here. As I used to work for ISPs for the last ten years I am used to looking into a flatscreen for 18 to 20 hrs per day, so for that reason I alone I prefer TFTs.
Brother, these Americans are shopkeeper souls stinking to heaven. Dead for all spiritual life, totally dead. The nightingale is right that it does not come to these wretched existences. To me it is of serious, deeper meaning that America has no nightingale at all. To me it seems to be poetic justice. A Niagara voice is necessary to preach to these crooks that there are higher Gods than those coined in the mints."

I had a 19 inch CRT that worked fine since I got it in 2001, but about a year ago I found a good deal on a 24 inch widescreen LCD so I got that. Haven't noticed much difference, except I like the larger screen and especially the widescreen because it allows me to view 2 documents full size side-by-side when I'm doing work.
