My own belief is that Americans should dump the concept of race and focus on national unity (Europeans can do what they wish), but that's just me.

It will take a while to happen, but it's possible. Both victimhood and racism need to be dumped, and race/color should just not be part of much of the public sphere (e.g. race shouldn't be asked on job applications).

Modern conceptions of race are quite new. Not too long ago, Irish and Italians weren't really considered white; these definitions are always changing. I live in a multiracial neighborhood where everyone gets along. What needs to be addressed are socio-economic difficulties, like poverty and illiteracy. If everyone has access to a good standard of life, then many of the divisions that we see will diminish,

No, I don't want communism. I think that things can be improved by loosening governments controls in some areas and lowering fees and taxes (like on small businesses) while increasing government supervision in areas like preventing monopolies making sure that everyone has access to quality healthcare.
