Southern Italians and Sicilians in general look Moorish(North African) influenced this alongside with the Arabs that originally settled the region. Hence why they can often be mistaken for dark ethnic groups or mixed race groups like Hispanics because they are indeed mixed. To me they don't really look "White" or European.

But there's no such thing as a "white" or European look. Between the Northernmost Swede and the Southernmost Cretan, all sorts of unique phenotypes are possible.

This all true, indeed but Southern Italians and Sicilians are often North African and Arabian influenced and hence the exotic looks among them. Cretans have some Arabian influences although it's much minor than that of Southern Italian and Sicilians. Some Sicilians can look like full blown Arabids or Berberids for example

Judging by their admix results, there is no type present in Sicily that can't also be found in Greece.

Aside from a slightly higher rate of SW Asian and a drop of African (which is far too small to affect their phenotype), Sicilians' Admix is virtually identical to that of Greeks.

There are obviously exotic Sicilians but if you mean to say that there are people there who can pass as Saudi, Yemeni, Kuwaiti, etc. then I would find that difficult to believe.

Yes, but it's interesting prespective how Italians are not precived to be fully White, despite being of European origins, and this especially true in regards of Southern Italians and Sicilians in particular. Yet North Caucasians who are not pigmented are often seen as White in the U.S, and the same is true of other communities that are often not regarded as part of the European mainstream.

In New York there is a large Circassian and Chechen communities, they never often afirm their White status, and this especially when they are not outwardly Muslim, and they often tend to pass for the general White American or the American understanding of White.

Well, I live in Boston and around here any caucasoid is automatically considered white.

There may be a few American Nordicists like Supreme American here and there but for the most part, Americans are not very racially inquisitive.

So we should be careful not to treat one person's article as representative of all Italians; I'm pretty sure that most Italians have no problems being accepted as "white" in America.

It should also be noted she lives in the Midwest, where there are not a lot of Italians and most European Americans are of Northern European descent.

All I know is, all (ethnic descent) Italians are white Europeans and if some people don't see that, that's their misjudgment.
